Saturday on the Top of the World

June 20, 2010

Sometimes it is just nice to have some time to yourself. However, when that time is spent scanning over 200 pictures of plants onto your laptop, it gets old really fast. Now, if the pictures were colorful and full of life, it would have been more interesting. But no, these plants were like “stick” plants. Black & white. Needless to say, it was a long afternoon.

I managed to pick Jeremy and Jenny up from the airport today without getting lost. For anyone who knows me, you know that this is an astounding feat. =) I’m fairly proud of myself. Although… I think it’s impossible to get lost in Barrow. You can only go one way unless you want to end up in the ocean. And, I’m assuming that is not where the airport is located.

The “Tally Board” was made today. Any time any of us says something inappropriate, or turn something someone else said into something inappropriate, we get a tally. So far, it’s me and Jeremy: 0, Rob: 5, and Jenny: 4. If things keep up at this rate, I feel like we are going to need more paper by the end of the summer, just for Jenny and Rob. Haha =)

Overall, today was slow and a little boring. So, there isn’t really anything amusing from today to consume your attention for this post. But, I never wrote about grocery shopping with Bob the other day, and this is a necessary thing to share:

Grocery shopping with Bob is hilarious. Apparently, Bob thinks that none of us have ever bought food before. He felt it necessary to show us how to pick out ham. Being that we needed groceries to last a few weeks, Bob looked at every single package of ham in that cooler, to find the 6 best packets of ham ever. It was ridiculous. There was ham everywhere. And no roast beef. Apparently, that is just bad news. Then, it was time for produce. I figured, a few peppers, some carrots, apples. Not with Bob. We ended up with over a dozen zucchinis, a ton of squash, two huge bunches of asparagus, over a dozen peppers, a ton of apples, oranges, and more. He is also crazy about bread. Apparently, twelve grain bread is just white braid with a bunch of stuff stuck in it. So, that is not allowed. You would think, well, he wants us to eat healthy. Is that why we left the store with six cases of pop? Yea… I thought so too.  But hey, 5 of those 6 cases are mountain dew. So, I’m pretty happy about the situation. So much for not drinking so much pop this summer. Epic fail Kelsey, epic.

I think my favorite part of the day happened a little less than an hour ago. We took a short walk out to the ocean. I tell you, the arctic ocean, still pretty frozen and covered in snow, is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The way the sun (even after midnight) reflects off of the snow, ice, and the little bit of water is absolutely spectacular. I’d take this frozen ocean over any other mass of water out there.
